The Texas State Council has approved an award for the best
Apostolate for the Imprisoned Program in Texas. It is called the St.
Maximillian Kolbe Award. First, second, and third place winners will
be recognized at our State Convention in May. This award is designed
to recognize and further the efforts of many councils currently involved
in the prison ministry, and to encourage other councils to initiate
ministry programs within the jails and prisons located in their
geographical areas.
St. Maximillian Kolbe, who died in a Nazi concentration camp, is the
recognized patron saint of prisoners. He is also the patron of those
addicted to drugs. Drug abuse and/or addiction continues to be the major
problem of those who are incarcerated.
In order to apply for this award, a council needs only to complete the
"Apostolate for the Imprisoned Report on Activities" form and submit it to
the State Office according to the instructions printed at the bottom of
the form. A copy of this form is located in the Programs Manual for your
convenience. Feel free to make as many copies of this form as needed.
