For the fraternal year 2006-2007 the State Vocations/Seminarian Support Activities will focus on the Adopt A Seminarian / Prayers for Vocations as the primary state program. The other programs referenced are for council consideration.

1. ADOPT A SEMINARIAN" PROGRAM (RSVP)...

Will be our primary focus to financially help each seminarian reach their goal of becoming a priest. A seminarian experiences the greatest need in August and January when his tuition is due. To meet this need, YOUR COUNCIL COMMITMENT OF SUPPORT IS NECESSARY EARLY INTO THE FRATERNAL YEAR.

STATE GOAL… Monetary Pledge and Funding for 100% of the seminarians throughout the Diocese in Texas by January 31, 2007.  Steps to reach this goal:

  • Councils should appoint a Council Vocations Chairman.
  • Contact the State Chairman, Diocesan Deputy / Assistant Diocesan Deputy or the appointed Diocesan Vocation Representative to obtain a listing of the seminarians assigned to your Diocese.
  • Inform your Diocesan and District Deputy or your appointed Diocesan Vocations Representative of your pledge to support.  Providing support means financial, moral and personal contact with the Seminarians.
  • Contact and advise the State Chairman and Diocesan Vocations Director of your pledge and donation.
  • View the "Adopt A Seminarian" criteria and requirements of the RSVP refunds here.
  • FINANCIAL SUPPORT… To qualify for RSVP, the check MUST BE MADE PAYABLE to the Seminarian and mailed to the Diocesan Vocations Director in your diocese to receive credit from the Texas State Council and Supreme.

REFUND SUPPORT VOCATIONS PROGRAM (RSVP)… Refer to the Council Report Forms Booklet and the Supreme / Texas State Council guidelines flyer in this section for the refund criteria.

MORAL SUPPORT… Get acquainted with your seminarian.  Contact the State Chairman for a listing of the seminarians assigned to your Diocese.

    1.  Send birthday greetings
    2.  Send monthly stipend for personal items.
    3.  Invite him to council functions and socials.
    4.  Recruit him to join the Knights of Columbus.

    2. VOCATIONS

    1.  PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS…

  • Say a Prayer for Vocations during your council meetings.
  • Obtain and distribute vocation cards and flyers.
  • Ask volunteers to pray for Vocations with their family, weekly/monthly.
  • 2.  ANNUNITY FOR PRIESTS…

The retirement situation with our Priests has reached a crisis stage in many dioceses.   The Knights of Columbus are in a unique position through our insurance program to help alleviate this.

    This is how it works!

  • Councils / Individuals make a minimum contribution of $300 to a Priest, for the purpose of purchasing an annuity in his name through the Knights of Columbus.
  • Once the annuity has been setup then individuals or councils can make future contributions to the annuity in $50 minimum donations.
  • Benefits

  • It's portable - moves with the Priest wherever he goes.
  • Shows solidarity and support for our Priests.
  • Supplements the Priest Retirement
  • Council gains an insurance member
  • A recruitment tool if the Priest is not a Knight of Columbus.  Council will gain a new member plus an insurance member.
  • For assistance to purchase the annuity - contact your Field Agent
