LOCAL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL RECEIVES TOP INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR 20TH YEAR

Knights of Columbus Council #6878 of Humble, TX has earned the distinction of Star Council, one of the organization’s top awards, for the 2010-2011 fraternal year.  This is the 20th year that they have earned this award and, as such, is a special achievement across the entire US. The organization’s headquarters, located in New Haven, Connecticut, made the announcement.

The award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership recruitment and retention, promotion of the fraternal insurance program, and sponsorship of service-oriented activities.  The award was presented to the membership by Jim Collins at a special ceremony held on 9/28/2011.

In announcing the local winner of the Star Council Award, Carl A. Anderson, chief executive officer of the organization, said, “Please accept my sincere congratulations upon attaining this prestigious award.  Your dedication to the Order is seen in the high standard of excellence you have achieved.  At the same time, I encourage you to carry forward this enthusiasm to meet the challenges that will face the Knights of Columbus in the years ahead.  May this award be a reminder and an inspiration to the members of you council to continue to promote the ideals of Columbianism for the good of the Church, your community, and the Order.”

“Receiving the Star Council Award is quite an honor for us.  We’re extremely proud of this accomplishment,” proclaimed Tom Andrews, head of the local council.

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic lay organization.  It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Church, their communities, families and young people.  With more than 1.8 million members in over 13,000 councils around the world, the Knights of Columbus annually donates more than $151 million and 69 million hours of service to charitable causes.  Please visit http://www.kofc.org for more information.

17th Annual Ray Geisler Charity Golf Tournament - Fort Worth

Golf Tournament in Fort Worth supporting the American Wheelchair Mission and other charities (see the attached info. package). We offer tons of prizes, and Knights and their families receive a discount.  There is a Texas Style Barbeque Lunch included.

On Sunday October 16, 2011 our Knights of Columbus Council will be hosting its 17th Annual Ray Geisler Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament name has changed to honor Ray Geisler, one of our founding and most respected members who moved away recently. However, the name change is only one of the improvements we are making this year. In addition, our charitable goal focus is on the American Wheelchair Mission program in cooperation with the Knights. We have a goal of giving the gift of mobility to at least 10 needy people. You may have never realized what a difference a wheelchair can make in the life of a disabled person not able to afford one on his/her own, but the change can be enormous. You can learn more about the American Wheelchair Mission by visiting http://www.kofc.org/wheelchair. Furthermore, while we hope to contribute greatly to the wheelchair program, we still plan to contribute to the other causes we have in the past like our Christmas Eve Meal for the Homeless, St. Rita School and Church, The Boy Scouts of America, Our Seminarian Fund, and much more. Lastly, another change this year is improved prizes. You have spoken, and we have listened.

We are hoping for over 100 players to participate in this year’s tournament. In previous years, this event has been our largest fundraiser, but to make these worthy goals we will need your help! I invite you to join us for a day of golf, fun, and giving. Attached is the sign-up sheet for play in the tournament. We would love for you and your friends to play as a group of four, but you can also sign up individually. Please fill out and mail the attached sign-up sheet and your check to the address on the bottom of the form. Besides playing in the tournament, this year we have several additional options of participation.

  Hole Sponsor: $100
  Meal Sponsor: $ 50

Please join us in making this tournament a huge success so we can help those less fortunate!

Novena in honor of Our Sorrowful Mother and 75th Anniversary of the Shrine of the True Cross

As we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the dedication of the Shrine of the True Cross and strive to re-establish our parish identity as a diocesan shrine, a sacred place of pilgrimage and devotion to the Cross of Christ, we hold dear the words of the beloved founder of the Shrine. After a forty-four year absence, the Perpetual Novena to Our Sorrowful Mother is returning. We are honoring the obedience of Our Lady to God at the foot of the Cross of her Crucified Son.

The Novena will precede and lead up to the Solemn Episcopal Mass of Thanksgiving of the 75th Anniversary of the dedication of the Shrine of the True Cross, and observance of the patronal feast of the Triumph of the Cross, to be celebrated on Sunday, September 18, 2011, by His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston Houston.
