Annual Beerfest 9765
Posted Jul 28, 2012
Council 9765 in Fredericksburg will hold its third annual Bestfest at Marktplatz in downtown Fredericksburg on Saturday, October 20th.
. Bestfest event is a celebration of German favorites - beer, sausage & polka music - with a twist. We’ve combined great offerings from some of the best Texas sausage makers along with a number of the best craft beers around to create a unique sausage and beer tasting event. Add in the opportunity to win a 2012 Kawasaki 4x4 mule, 21 different rifles/shotguns, and a number of great outdoors and hunting-related items, and you’ve got a super celebration of things we love about Fredericksburg and the hill country – beer, sausage and hunting.
Starting at 11:00 AM, the entry fee ($10 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under) will get you all the sausage, sauerkraut and German potatoes you can eat. Tea is included for the meal. Other drinks will be available for purchase (water, soft drinks, wine and margaritas). A great selection of craft beers will be available for tasting and purchase, giving you the opportunity to find your favorite ‘pairing’ of beer and sausage. The event features sausage products from Opa’s Smoked Meats, Slovacek Sausage and Kiolbassa and beer offerings from such noted microbreweries as Real Ale Brewing Company, St. Arnold’s Brewing Company, Pedernales Brewing Company and Spoetzel Brewing Company.
Polka music will be provided throughout the afternoon by Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six as well as The Seven Dutchmen Orchestra. These two well-known musical combos will play German favorites throughout the afternoon and evening, so dancing shoes are recommended. Activities for kids are also planned, including pumpkin painting and several piñatas.
With deer hunting season right around the corner, participants will also have a number of opportunities to win great hunting-related prizes, including the night’s final drawing for a 2012 4x4 Kawasaki mule. The event also includes a “21-Gun Salute” in which a great selection of 21 shotguns and rifles will be given away. Tickets for these items are $20 and will be available for purchase the day of the event. The event also includes a large number of drawings for other great outdoors and hunting-related items.
Proceeds from the Bestfest event are used for charitable giving of Council 9765. In the last two years, the council has allocated money locally to help sponsor the record-setting military blood drives as well as for St. Mary’s Church ministries such as RCIA, St. Mary’s School, the Hill Country Community Needs Council, Fredericksburg Academic Boosters, and scholarships for college-bound Gillespie County students. The council also supports a number of young men in priestly formation and the religious life as well as the college Catholic center ministries.
