Brothers,
Hurricane Harvey was the most destructive storm to ever hit the United States.  It crashed into the Texas coast on August 25th as a category 4 hurricane with winds in excess of 130 miles an hour.  Over the next 5 days, Harvey slowly moved up the Texas coast making landfall three times and dumping over 50” of rain in some areas.  More than 185,000 homes were damaged by the storm, but only 20% of those suffering flood damage had flood insurance.  The Texas Knights are continuing to assist those suffering from this devastation.
Here are some recent accomplishments of the Knights:
Charitable Works:

Approximately 54,000 meals have been served to neighbors, first responders, those in shelters, and others seeking assistance.
Supreme and the Texas State Charity Board have provided councils with over $28,500 for purchasing food and cleaning supplies.
Brother Knights from LaPlace, Louisiana came to Port Arthur and served a delicious pasta dinner to 1065 people displaced by the hurricane.
Council 12327 in the Woodlands donated $1000 in gift cards to Lowes, Target, and Walmart to those needing assistance in the Beaumont Diocese.
Council 3217 continues to serve 1225 meals a week to the local community and first responders in Dickinson.
Council 3110 fed 200 people suffering from the hurricane in Bayside last Saturday.
Working with Catholic Charities, several councils in Houston continue to receive and distribute donations of cleaning supplies, water, and food to the communities where they are needed.

Assistance to Brother Knights in Need:
Thanks to donations from across the nation, funds are being provided by Supreme and the Texas State Council Charity Board for Knights needing assistance.

310 Knights have received $100 gift cards supplied by Supreme.
403 grant requests have been submitted, and $518,000 has been given to Brother Knights.
Local Councils are continuing to help Knights needing assistance repairing and cleaning out their homes.

If you know of a Brother Knight, or widow of a Knight, who has suffered a loss from the hurricane, please have them contact me at 214-557-2923 or e-mail: hss@storeycorp.com for assistance.
