Cue the Rod Serling “Twilight Zone” voiceover: “Imagine, if you will, a sum of money, forgotten in a dark vault, just waiting to be discovered. Who left it here…and why?

The IRS has revoked the tax-exempt status for thousands of charitable entities in Texas, including 119 units related to the Knights of Columbus.
Attached is a list of these units sorted by zip code. The source file is on the IRS website at: http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=240099,00.html
At the Change of Power Meeting, I shared with you of the situation that my home Council# 6878 had reached 20 Consecutive years of making their Charity Goal and attained the Cardinal Dinardo Award at the State Convention.
If you attended the State Convention, you heard the letter from our Associate State Chaplain, Father Jack Whitley. Father Jack missed his first State Convention as a result of a car accident that left him with cracked ribs and a month rehab in the hospital. He felt an obligation to attend this convention in order to lead his Brother Priests in the Clergy Seminar. But the Drs. told him that the distance was too far to travel.
“I hope someone told you lately that you are wonderful. Mark was at our Relay for Life fund- raiser at our hospital. He looks so good and it is due to the dedication and support of the Knights. I am so impressed how you guys walk the walk. God Bless You, Mary”
Q – Can an officer of the council be removed from office for missing three consecutive meetings?
Knights of Columbus councils, assemblies and chapters are individual subordinate units of the Supreme Council organization of the Knights of Columbus. Each such unit is required to register with the IRS, obtain an individual tax ID number (EIN) and to provide that number to the Supreme Council. Supreme will then add that unit to the master list of units they provide to the IRS so that each unit is now officially associated with the “group exemption” from federal income taxation granted to the Order as a qualified 501 C 8 fraternal non-profit organization.
How time flies! Here we are with only four months to go in the fraternal year. It’s already time to prepare for the State Convention. During the last convention, I announced the slogan “the Passion to Serve”.
