The State Ceremonial Team is looking forward to another great Fraternal Year. There were 73 Major Degrees held the last Fraternal Year in Texas
The Constitution and Bylaws in Section 108 provides that a Grand Knight will appoint an Admission Committee of seven members. Though any member in good standing may serve, it is quite often the Council’s Recruitment Chairman who also serves as Chairman of the Admission Committee.
As a District Deputy and Diocesan Deputy, it is important to teach Grand Knights how to plan and perhaps help them with what should be in a plan. The elements of a good plan should include the following.
This morning I had the privilege to beg on the street corner in our semi-annual Diocesan wide Tootsie Roll Drive. As everyone knows we are in a tough economy and of course no one has money left over for charity, right? Wrong!!!!!
As most of you probably know way back in 1954 the Knights of Columbus led the way to include these words in our Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. Recently the Knights in California successfully defended keeping “ONE NATION UNDER GOD” in the pledge.
Thanks to all the District Deputies, Grand Knights, 1st Degree Teams, Major Degree Teams, and Conferring Officers for doing an excellent job in keeping Texas as the best Jurisdiction in the Knights of Columbus.
The mere fact that you are taking the time to read this means that you are already committed to the principles of our founder Fr Michael J. McGivney. However even those of us who are committed can benefit from a little introspection.
A timely reminder on these two issues: A man cannot be a Mason and a Knight of Columbus simultaneously. The Church has held for several centuries that the tenets of Masonic ritual are incompatible with Catholic Church teachings. In 1983, the Vatican reiterated: “The Church’s negative judgment in regards to Masonic associations remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden.
