Lent, A Time to Examine Your Conscience
Tony Herreth, State Deputy
How time flies! Here we are with only four months to go in the fraternal year. It’s already time to prepare for the State Convention. During the last convention, I announced the slogan “the Passion to Serve”.
It is a slogan that many of you took to heart. The many programs which you have conducted this year has been overwhelming. Because of successful and exciting programs, you have been able to recruit so many members that Texas surpassed New York by December 31 for the title of the largest jurisdiction in the United States.
A downside to reaching this milestone so early in the year was the slowdown in recruitment during January and February. We estimated that Texas would be at 95,000 members by the end of February, but we missed the mark by only 128 members. With 2,881 members recruited at the end of February, Texas needs 505 members per month for the last 4 months to reach Supreme’s goal of 4900.
Lent is a time to reflect on your life and examine your conscience. It is a time to build on your character. As leaders in Texas, I ask you to look within and ask yourself how you can improve your leadership skills. Then set your sights for the remainder of the year. Ask yourself what you can do to advance growth in our Order. Can you reach the goals you established at the first of the year? Instill your enthusiasm into your membership. Their fire will feed your fire. I am confident that you will succeed.
Be reminded that our Lord Jesus Christ gave his life so that we may be better men. It is HIS PASSION that we serve. May he guide you as you go forth to evangelize your members.
Peace be with you.
