Our Main Objective
Mark Evans, Charity Director
As you recall from a previous publication, our main objective this year will be encouraging our Brother Knights to give to State Charities.
Not just for their Bishop’s designated charity, but also to their Brother Knights around our great state who find themselves in need. Whether it is for Special Olympics, Catholic Schools, or a natural disaster as seen in the wildfires that swept through Bastrop last year, we are called to respond to all of these needs. We must instill in our members that while Charity begins at home, it doesn’t stop at our local boundaries. We are all a part of something larger that requires us to step up and help families wherever the need should arise.
Through the first two months of this fraternal year we are on pace with last year. So, let us continue to aim high for our Bishops and our Brother Knights.
I am pleased to announce that Marshall Council 1422 has contributed $2,500.00 in honor of this being their 25th consecutive year of achieving 100% or more of their State Charity goal !!!
Remember that the Bishop of your Diocese will receive 70% of your State Charity contribution and 100% of all monies that exceed your Diocesan charity goal. To insure that your council receives proper credit, please make your checks payable to “State Council Charities” and be sure to include your council number on the check. Mail it to: Texas State Council Knights of Columbus, 6633 Hwy 290 East, Suite 204, Austin, Texas 78723-1157.
Your council have been given an opportunity to win awards by reaching your State Charity goal. The goal is $10.00 per member and the total is established by the number of members your council as of July 1, 2012. Whenever a member donates $20 or more, he will receive this beautiful lapel pin. By completing the Charity Contribution Form, your council will be given credit towards its goal. (See “Market Place” for form)
Please continue to promote the Infirmed Priests Program. All the monies collected from the license plates will be divided among the 15 dioceses in Texas. We receive $22.00 for every license plate sold or renewed. So, help us promote the license plates which in turn will help the dioceses with their Infirmed Priests.
Also, there is some type of Special Olympics event happening all the time. If you know of an event, please show up and help out. You will be glad you did. Also, it is never too early to print out the Special Olympics Form (#4584) due in January … and plan something to help Special Olympics. Remember, the more forms submitted means more money for Special Olympics from the Supreme Council.
We are off to a great start with Cardinal Medeiros Fellowships. Please consider honoring one of your Priests or special brother knights by purchasing a fellowship in their name.
And finally, it is time to start promoting the Education Grand Program to your councils. Let’s try to double the number of applicants this year and keep our Education committeemen busy. Remember, all forms from these programs can be obtained by going to the Texas State Council website at http://www.tkofc.org.
If you need any help or have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me or any member of the State Charities team.
