Texas State Council Suggested Programs for November!

Columbian Award “Full Credit “ Programs Include:
Church - “RSVP”
Community - “Habitat For Humanity” - Involve council members & entire parish community in the building of a home.
Council - “Special Olympics” (must file form 4584 on time to qualify - due by Jan. 30)
Family - “Food For Families” - Prepare/serve meals at a soup kitchen. Conduct food drives to re-stock the parish or community food pantry.
Pro-Life - “March for Life” - Participation in the activity should include council participation in terms of approval, organization, manpower, finances and material, such as chartering a bus or organizing a car pool to transport people to the event, providing K of C pro-life sings, or showing some other organizational support such as the Fourth Degree Honor guard. Individual participation in a pro-life march/walk by one or more Knights does not qualify.
Youth - “Coats for Kids” or “Sponsorship of a Squires Circle”. The Coats for Kids program requires councils to purchase new children’s winter coats from Supreme or collect “gently used” coats from Knights and parishioners for distribution to needy kids.

We still have not heard from most Dioceses about Squire Counselors. We are still missing the names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses from about 65 of the Circles in Texas. Wheel Chair Mission
Please have your council consider contributing $150 towards the purchase of a wheelchair. Only half of the State Dioceses are participating. Check if your Diocese is one participating! Fundraisers towards this activity are easy and very worthwhile. Checks need to be made payable to AMERICAN WHEEL CHAIR MISSION and sent to:

Youth Activities
Patriotic Essay Contest for Youth Encourage students, grades 8 -12 to write essay on “The Responsibility of Catholic Citizen in a Free Society.” Essays need to be 500 -700 words. Essays need to be submitted to your Council for judging by October to be eligible for District Judging in December. Further advancement for Diocesan will take place in January followed by State Finals in March 2012. Certificates are available free from Supreme Council For additional details see Supreme Web Page. Basketball Free Throw - Remember to order your Free Throw Kits from Supreme. Council competition is in Jan, Feb/District, State - March 03, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas.
