Who Care About Membership!

Tony Herreth, State Deputy

We don’t care about awards and all that stuff! We’re too busy to hold membership drives, anyway we’ve already asked all the men in our parish. The young guys are working and don’t have time. We’re pretty satisfied with the members we’ve got. I asked him last year when he joined the parish. Brother Bob used to be our recruiter but he’s been sick. Our Grand Knight hasn’t said anything about recruiting. We don’t have any form 100’s.

I’ve heard all of these “cat ate my homework” comments and many more, and then I talk to councils that are going great guns with recruitment and hear the answer to all these comments. We recruit because we need to! We want new members, we want to grow our council, and we want to offer the hand of fraternity to all Catholic men! We are following Fr. McGiveny’s vision that all Catholic men join in fraternity to be the strong right arm of the Church!
We, as Catholics, are under attack for our beliefs and we need strong, committed knights to defend our faith and to stand with our clergy in this defense. It is more important today than it has ever been.

No one recruits for awards, we recruit for our love of the Church. We recruit because in numbers we make a real difference, a difference in our community, our Church, and in our great state of Texas!
I simply ask each brother Knight to extend his hand to a Catholic Gentleman and say “You should be a Knight of Columbus, We need YOU!” Please do it today, he’s waiting.

As your State Deputy, Marty & I have traveled throughout this state and have had the great honor and pleasure of meeting many of our brother Knights and their families. Please join us at the Annual State Convention that is being held in Houston at the Hilton Americas April 27-29, 2012. We are going to have a grand time; the weekend is packed with fraternity and events. The State golf tournament is being held at the Southwyke Golf Club on Friday morning and the clergy seminar and luncheon will be at 10:00 am. Mass will be at the beautiful Co-Cathedral and the convention host committee has planned a 50’s Sock Hop for Friday night.

We will begin our business sessions on Saturday morning after the State Deputy address. We will then conduct the business of approving the budget, reports, resolutions and the election of Supreme Delegates. The State banquet will be at 7:00 pm, concluding with the election of your State Officers on Sunday. It will be a fun weekend of fellowship and business. All the details can be found at http://www.tkofc.org, just select the convention logo.

Marty and I look forward to meeting you because you have the Passion to Serve!
