The Father Michael Hurley Council 3262, Wharton, hosted for the 26th straight year the Feast of Sharing.

image The Knights serve a traditional holiday dinner on Thanksgiving Day to the elderly and needy of the Wharton and surrounding communities.  This year 1,400 meals were served, an increase of over 200 from 2010.

It takes all week to prepare the meal. The turkeys and groceries are donated by the local HEB Food Store.  Over 125 Knights and communities volunteers work during the week to prep the turkeys and bake the cornbread dressing. Serving starts at 9:30 a.m til 12:30 a.m. which allows the volunteers to enjoy the holiday afternoon with their families.

The dinner was started in 1986 by then grand knight Leroy Dettling, who continues to served as the coordinator,  Over the years he has enlisted the help of the council sponsored Boy Scout Troop 326 and all troops in the city to deliver 200 meals to the home bound and senior citizen apartment complexes.  Homemade desserts are also donated by the Knights and the community.
