State Chaplain’s Prolife Message

Dear Council Chaplains and Brother Priests,
As you know, January marks the tragic anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the court decision that has led to the deaths of over 50 million unborn children. As your State Chaplain, I ask that we do more to try to end abortion in our country. As you correspond with your councils through your Chaplain Reports, please encourage the Knights in your area be active in Pro Life activities.
I know that many councils are already heavily involved in Pro Life activities and I applaud them for that work. I am also aware there are some councils around the state that have yet to actively work for the Pro-Life cause. This could be due to the lack of a perceived need in areas where there are no abortion clinics or crisis pregnancy centers located.
It is certainly a blessing to not have the sad presence of an abortion clinic in those communities. But, the need for the Pro Life message is just as great there since women from even the most remote areas of Texas seek out abortions in the cities where clinics are located.
Another very important aspect of Pro-Life work is education. We must ensure that our Catholic youth are firmly rooted in Church teaching about the value, dignity and protection of life from conception to death. As these young people go out into the world to study at universities, or begin their lives in the workplace, they encounter those who try to rationalize the culture of death. It is vital that our young people are firm in their faith. Surveys show that the majority of Americans are now Pro–Life. But, as Catholic men, we must continue to educate until Roe v. Wade is overturned and the culture of life prevails across our country.
I am also asking your Grand Knights to bring this challenge to council members and K of C families. Please seek the assistance of your diocesan Pro Life chairman or the state Pro Life chairman, Tom Clark, in the event you need assistance in formulating a Pro-Life program.
By working together we can put to rest the scourge that has wounded our nation for nearly 40 years.
Faithfully in Christ
Most Reverend Kevin J. Farrell, D.D.
