How do eligible Catholic men who are not members of the Knights of Columbus
discover the benefits of being a Knight? How do eligible Catholic men find
out about our order and its charitable, unifying, fraternal, & patriotic
activities? How do they come to learn that the Knights of Columbus is an
organization that they would like to join? How can you make recruiting new
members easier?
The answer is through excellent PUBLIC RELATIONS activities by our Councils, our
Districts, our Dioceses, our State Council, and Supreme Council. Public
Relations activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
(1) Press releases to local newspapers
(2) Advertising on local community bulletin
channels on cable television
(3) Council and Assembly Newsletters
(4) Radio and television coverage of charitable
events
(5) Advertising in Parish Bulletins and local
community newspapers
(6) Word of mouth from a member to a prospective
member
(7) State Council web site (www.tkofc.org)
and Supreme Council web site (www.kofc.org).
These are just a few of the efforts that we, as Knights, must make to get the
word out to the world about our order, its purpose, its charitable works, and
its results. If we do this correctly and frequently and direct these
efforts to the correct audience, we will have eligible Catholic men asking us
how to join the order. Wouldn’t that be something! We could meet and
exceed our recruiting goals without having to “beat the bushes”.
It is my responsibility to see that this happens at the State Council level.
It your responsibility to insure this happens at the Council, District, and
Diocesan level. Our State Council web site has been reorganized to help
you accomplish this goal. Use it to its fullest capability! If you
should have any questions as to how to fully utilize the
www.tkofc.org web site, contact me at
(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or State
Council Web Master Mark Johnson at
(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We will be happy to assist you in your efforts.
I often hear someone say, “We don’t like to toot our own horn”. “We just go
about our business.” “The Good Lord knows when we do something charitable
in His name.” I cannot argue with these statements, but couldn’t we get
more Catholic men involved with our order and conduct larger and better
charitable events if we just let them know what we are doing and what we stand
for?
Put a little extra effort into your Public Relations Activities! You might
be surprised at the results your Council will achieve. Appoint an
enthusiastic Public Relations Chairman for your Council! Send the name,
address, phone number, and e-mail address of your Public Relations Chairman to
me at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or mail it to
me at 202 Crocus, Lake Jackson, TX 77566. I will insure that he is kept up
to date on all press releases involving the Texas State Council and Supreme
Council.
