Easter Joy

David “Reggie” R Vasquez, Visions Chairman

Nobody thought it could happen. Nobody could quite comprehend it, nor could they imagine it being possible.

Coming back from death just did not happen nor could it. Yet, Jesus of Nazareth, after being brutally abused, tortured, crucified, and pierced on the cross, gloriously triumphed over death and was resurrected. It was the event that changed all of salvation history and all of human history.

Even today, more than two thousand years later, humanity still has a very difficult time wrapping their heads around this profound event. It’s hard to believe so it’s easier to discount, dismiss, mock, and demand scientific proof while living a life of our own choosing. Belief would require a change of mind, heart, and soul. Even the apostles and disciples found it incredulous until Jesus was in their midst and even invited their touch. Thomas is in the Gospel reminding us that a realization of God among us and sharing our humanity was real, is real, and will be for all eternity. Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, realized as Lord and God, had risen from the dead and the joy of that glorious resurrection would change and renew the face of the earth.

Each year around this time we celebrate and commemorate the passion, death, and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of the resurrection our faith takes on the realization that salvation is ours to have and share with the obligation to share and live the good news of the New Testament as a fulfillment of the Old. We Catholics, throughout history since the Resurrection, are not only the living recipients of the good news, but also are the privileged disciples of this age. Jesus, the sacrificial lamb has purchased for all the joy of salvation and is the hope of mankind. Throughout the ages and even today the message is the same, God is Love and through His Son Jesus Christ He draws us to Him.

We Knights of Columbus and our families share in the glory of the Resurrection, and have become in our age instrumental in evangelizing and building the domestic Church. More than ever before the world needs the message and realization of Jesus among us. We can make a real difference if we set aside our doubts and build up our own Brotherhood of Knights. With a unity of purpose we can reignite a passion of faith among men of our age. We do this one member at a time one Council at a time. Is it time to reignite your Council? Could you not use a few more members to help in the evangelization efforts of your parish? It is time in our age, to recapture the Spirit, reinforce our faith and Church, and bring in strong new members who would be Knights willing to live out the good news. Rejoice He is risen!

Vivat Jesus! Viva Cristo Rey!
