Private First Class Herschel M. Riggs to be buried

KC Fourth Degree Assembly 2622 will participate during the Mass

Private First Class Herschel M. Riggs was killed in action July 16, 1950 in the Kum River area of South Korea.  After 69 years of missing in action, he is finally coming home to Texas. Private First Class Riggs was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, Unites States Army.  He was awarded a Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal. 
   He was born September 21, 1931 in Fort Ringgold, Texas to Herschal and Lillie (Lund) Riggs.

   He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Saenz and her husband Cosme, nephews Samuel Garcia, and Roberto Saenz, grandmother Catarina Lund, aunts Emma Lund and Kate Lund and uncles George Lund, Johnny Lund and Sonny Lund.  
   
   Herschel is survived by his nieces and nephews Marvin Saenz and wife Isabel, Liviar Hernandez and husband Gilbert, Lillie Saenz and Rosendo Saenz.  

Visitation for Herschel will be on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 2-9 pm at the Hurley Funeral Home in Pearsall, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm.  His funeral mass will be Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pearsall.  Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery East in Pearsall.
